About Our Organization

The Friends of Shawnee Town 1929 has its roots dating back to 1966, when Shawnee local citizens formed as the "Sheriff's Posse" to save a stone building threatened by demolition.

Having saved the building, by the next year they morphed into the Shawnee Historical Society and ran the seven-acre museum then known as Old Shawnee Town.

When the museum became Shawnee Town 1929 in 2004, the Historical Society became the Friends of Shawnee Town (FOST).  The FOST is a membership-based 501c3 non-profit organization which supports the museum through advocacy, membership, special events, and fundraising.  The funding supports educational programs, school field trip bus subsidies, historic artifact purchases, and special event programming.
