A Fundraising Campaign
Our History in the Making capital campaign has been initiated to provide greater visibility for Shawnee Town and better services for our visitors. The addition of a new Museum Visitor’s Center on Johnson Drive will serve as an accessible and welcoming entry point for public interaction.
This fundraising effort is a collaboration between the Friends of Shawnee Town (501c3), Shawnee Town 1929, and the City of Shawnee to ensure Shawnee’s stories and history will be faithfully preserved for the future.
Campaign Goal
$3.5 Million in donations + $3.5 Million
in matching city funding
for our new museum Visitor’s Center at Shawnee Town 1929

Not final design - conceptual artist renderings only
The initial goal of the campaign is to raise $3.5M, plus matching funds from the City of Shawnee, to build a modern Visitor Center on the south side of the site at Johnson Drive and Cody.
Land and parking for the new Visitor’s Center are already available on museum grounds, so fundraising will support design and construction costs.
A new Visitor’s Center will be able to offer permanent and traveling exhibits which showcase Shawnee’s long rich history. A museum retail store, artifact and archives storage, meeting and classroom spaces, private event space, accessible restrooms, staffing space, and indoor program areas are also planned.
